Notes
Imelda was given in adoption by one of her aunts to a family in the U.S. when she was eight years old. During a second interview, she talks about how she reunited with her family in 2005 and had to deal with feeling split between two places: El Salvador and the United States. In Boston, she and four other Salvadorans (brought to the U.S. as children, adopted during the war) created a group called Advocates of the Disappeared as a support group for people in their same situation.

Also see the International Forensic Program at Physicians for Human Rights' work with Pro-Búsqueda since 1994.

Summary
Imelda Auron is one of many children from El Salvador who were given up in adoption (many of them kidnapped) during the war. Twenty years later, she was reunited with her family thanks to Pro-Búsqueda, an organization that seeks to reunite families who were separated during the war, focusing primarily on the forced disappearance of children.

Imelda had to witness the murder of her parents and two older sisters when she was only four. The remaining children lost their home, their land, and were forced to split up. She is currently writing a book about her experiences, and this is a reading from that.
