This project is a journalistic endeavor and does not pretend to be an intellectual design like other works of history, anthropology, or sociology. Nevertheless, I hope it becomes a source for future investigations. I owe special thanks to all the Salvadorans who shared their stories with me, despite the difficulties of remembering a painful past, and without whom this project would not have been possible.
